Elk Grove Township celebrates opening of Bike Safety & Challenge Courses
Local officials and community members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Elk Grove Township offices.
The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Elk Grove Township’s new Bike Safety and Challenge Courses took place Saturday, Sept. 14. The newly constructed courses are located behind the Elk Grove Township offices at 600 Landmeier Road, in Elk Grove Village. The highly anticipated event was well attended by both community members and elected officials.
Save the date for Elk Grove Township’s Holiday Outreach Programs
It’s never too early to start thinking about how we can help those in need during the winter holiday season. Elk Grove Township is providing township residents with three opportunities to help neighbors who are experiencing financial challenges. Elk Grove Township Food Pantry receives overwhelming community support
Elk Grove Township is pleased to announce the incredible success of recent community-driven efforts to support local families in need. The township has seen exponential growth in the number of residents who utilize its Food Pantry, currently serving more than 1,000 families per month, a testament to the growing demand and the community’s generosity.
Upcoming Deadline for Property Tax Bills Expected to be Aug. 1
For the first time in several years, second installment property tax bills in Cook County are expected to be mailed by July 1 and due on Thursday, Aug. 1, in accordance with state law. If this expectation holds true, it may come as a surprise to taxpayers, according to Connie Carosielli, Elk Grove Township Assessor. This is because the due dates in recent years have been considerably later than Aug. 1.
Elk Grove Township marks 50 years of providing crucial transportation service
The Elk Grove Township Transportation Department celebrates a milestone this year — its 50th year of bringing mobility and independence to senior and disabled residents. Medical appointments, grocery stores, senior centers and varied errands are easier to get to year-round, thanks to the township bus service and the TRIP Program. The Transportation Department currently provides 4,000 rides per year.
Elk Grove Township Community Empowerment Fund holds annual Fundraiser
The Elk Grove Township Community Empowerment Fund (CEF) held a fundraiser last week at Station 34 in Mount Prospect. CEF, an independent 501(c) (3) charity, was established by Elk Grove Township in 2018. Its mission is to provide financial support in special situations when township assistance for a resident in great need is either insufficient or not allowed by law.
Elk Grove Township provides administrative services open to all
Elk Grove Township offers a wide range of administrative services tailored to enhance the convenience for all individuals, regardless of their residency. Among these offerings are assistance with obtaining passports, Illinois hunting and fishing licenses, notary services and temporary handicap placards.

Elk Grove Township Offers Two Flu Vaccine Clinics this Fall
Elk Grove Township will host two flu vaccination clinics this fall, sponsored by Ascension Alexian Brothers. The first clinic will occur on Friday, October 6, and the second on Thursday, November 9. Both clinics will be held at the Township Meeting Hall, located at 600
Landmeier Road in Elk Grove Village, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Participants are asked to park in the east parking lot, next to the flag poles.
Looking Ahead: Elk Grove Township Launches Holiday Outreach Programs
Even though the holidays are several months away, Elk Grove Township has launched its holiday giving programs to let residents know how they can give back to those less fortunate over Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Township’s aim through three donation drives is to ensure all residents experiencing financial challenges can participate.
Elk Grove Township Serves Seniors Through Range of Programs
Elk Grove Township offers a multitude of resources and services for senior citizens living in the Township. Among them are transportation for residents who are 55 and older, or living with a disability. Recently, the Township added an Older Adult Program and Benefits Specialist to its staff, who helps seniors navigate Medicare, apply for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and make appointments for the Northwest Community Healthcare Township Mobile Dental Clinic. Elk Grove Township Welcomes New Board Members
Elk Grove Township officially welcomed a new trustee to their Board at the April 17 Board meeting. The Board approved Supervisor George Busse’s appointment of local small business owner, David Perns, to fill a vacancy created by the election of Trustee Vince Dante to the Mount Prospect Village Board. Perns term will run until May of 2025.
Passport is placed on the US flag. Preparing for a legitimate journey
Area residents planning a trip out of the country who do not have a valid passport can utilize passport services provided by Elk Grove Township to apply for a new or replacement passport. Individuals do not need to reside in the Township to take advantage of this service. An appointment is required and can be scheduled Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Passport agents who speak English, Spanish and Polish can assist with new and replacement passports for both adults and minors. Replacement passports, however, are available only for passports that have been lost, stolen or damaged.

Elk Grove Township Offers Confidential Mental Health Counseling for Residents
Elk Grove Township is unique compared to most other Illinois townships in that it offers no cost, mental health counseling services for its residents. Clients of all ages can be seen by licensed therapists, including bilingual Spanish speaking counselors, who can help address a wide range of mental health needs including anxiety, depression, addiction, family/relationship issues, and behavioral problems.
Elk Grove Township Community Empowerment Fund Meets Community Need
Established in 2018, the Elk Grove Township Community Empowerment Fund (CEF) is an independent charitable 501 (c) (3) organization that supports and supplements the social services provided by Elk Grove Township. With funding granted by CEF, the Township is able to provide essential assistance to residents who have exhausted available government aid or who have needs that fall outside of current government aid programs.
Elk Grove Township Serves Senior Citizens in Myriad of Ways
True to its motto of, “Empowering People Through Community,” Elk Grove Township has continued to expand services for its growing senior citizen population. The result is that seniors have access to transportation, a food pantry, counseling, help with tax appeals and exemptions, financial assistance, specialized guidance for senior benefits and more – which all serve to improve quality of life.
Elk Grove Township Introduces New Position to Serve Senior Citizens
In response to the growing needs of seniors who utilize assistance programs through the State of Illinois, Elk Grove Township has introduced a new position in their Social Services Department – the Older Adult Programming and Event Specialist. Among the programs available to seniors are SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), LIHEAP (Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program), LIWAP (Low Income Water Assistance Program) and SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Program) for Medicare, among others.
Elk Grove Township Assessor Is a Taxpayer Advocate
Acting as a taxpayer advocate is an integral part of the Elk Grove Township Assessor’s daily work in serving Township residents. A variety of helpful services, resources and education related to property taxes, as well as assistance with filing for property tax appeals and exemptions, are available by visiting the office at 600 Landmeier Road in Elk Grove Village (east entrance) or via phone and email.

Elk Grove Township Meets Great Need for Mental Health Services
Elk Grove Township residents in need of psychiatric services can now access them quickly and efficiently through a brand-new partnership between the Township and the Josselyn Center, a nonprofit community mental health provider based in Northfield. This new program drastically reduces wait times to see a psychiatrist – which at times have been as long as six to nine months – and provides for the holistic care of individuals in need of medication for a range of mental health issues.
Elk Grove Township Expands Range of Services
In a response to community needs, Elk Grove Township will be introducing three new services for Township residents in March. A mobile Secretary of State Unit will be at the Township building, 600 Landmeier Road in Elk Grove Village, on Tuesday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The unit will allow residents to obtain new driver’s licenses and State ID cards or to renew, replace or correct current licenses and IDs. This service will allow residents to avoid the long wait lines often experienced at DMV offices. In addition, the mobile unit will have vehicle stickers available.
High School Students Help Support Elk Grove Township’s Greater Mission
Elk Grove Township provides a variety of services to Township residents experiencing financial hardships through their food pantry and emergency assistance, in addition to transportation for seniors and the disabled, youth and family counseling services, and more. Each year there are also seasonal giving opportunities for area community members to give back to those less fortunate.
Elk Grove Township Welcomes Veterans Service Officer
The Elk Grove Township offices, 600 Landmeier Road in Elk Grove Village, are a new location for an Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) Veterans Service Officer (VSO) who is trained to help veterans navigate the process to obtain benefits for themselves, dependents, and survivors. Additionally, education, housing and retirement benefit assistance can also be provided. Walter Wilson, the new VSO at Elk Grove Township, is also a veteran and fully accredited by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Elk Grove Township, Lions Club Host Document Shredding Event
Elk Grove Township and the Mount Prospect Lions Club are partnering to offer a free and confidential way to dispose of unwanted documents at a shredding event Saturday, October 16 from 9 a.m. – noon. The event will take place at the RecPlex, 420 W. Dempster Street in Mount Prospect and no appointment is necessary.

Elk Grove Township Youth Services Responds to Pandemic After-Effects
Since the start of the pandemic, many students have had limited social interactions, and some may be overwhelmed or feel anxious about returning to the classroom this fall. The Elk Grove Township Youth Services Department (YSD) offers an array of groups and mental health services to help young people ages 7-18 achieve social and emotional health. Fall registration is open now for in-person and virtual programming that begins September 15 and is designed to help participants experience positive social interactions, manage stress and experience empathy.
Elk Grove Township Extends Food Pantry Hours
To ensure that the Elk Grove Township Food Pantry is accessible to as many residents as possible, the Township will be extending its Tuesday hours of operation until 7 p.m. for a test program beginning July 20. New user applications and scheduled appointments are required.
Elk Grove Township Continues Free Teletherapy
Due to overwhelmingly positive feedback from residents, Elk Grove Township will continue to offer teletherapy counseling sessions. This free therapy is provided by a licensed counselor and can take place via telephone or video. Teletherapy services began in April of 2020 due to COVID-19 safety restrictions and are offered in addition to in-person counseling now that restrictions have been lifted.
Elk Grove Township Welcomes New Elected Officials
he Elk Grove Township Board swore in new elected officials on Tuesday, May 17, including a new Supervisor, Clerk and two Trustees. George Busse, former Clerk, is taking the reins as Supervisor. Suellen Satern, former Senior Trustee, is stepping in as Clerk. The two Trustee newcomers are Vince Dante of Mount Prospect and Greg Wojtecki of unincorporated Elk Grove Township. Trustees Dale Niewiardowski and Dick Keenley were re-elected, as was long-time Assessor Connie Carosielli.
The Range of Services Offered by Elk Grove Township
While townships are known for financial assistance and food pantries for those in need, in addition to providing support for seniors and the disabled, Elk Grove Township offers a range of other services that all residents can take advantage of. These include, but are not limited to, property tax and employment assistance, adult and family counseling, youth services, passport application processing, hunting and fishing licenses, voter registration services and much more.
Elk Grove Township ‘Client Choice’ Food Pantry Provides Insight to Needs
In 2020, Elk Grove Township implemented a ‘client choice’ model for their food pantry, allowing individuals to choose items that they prefer, rather than those that were previously pre-packaged. This new model provided insight for Township officials regarding a higher demand among food pantry users, especially those with households that include four or more individuals. Beginning in March, these households will now be able to visit the food pantry twice per month. Previously, families could visit once per month.
Transportation Services for Elk Grove Township Elderly and Disabled
The Elk Grove Township Transportation Department is proud to offer senior and disabled residents safe solutions to get to medical appointments, the grocery store and to complete other errands year-round. Transportation options include DIAL-A-BUS, taxi services and the Township Rider Initiative Program (TRIP). All three options offer curb-to-curb service and provide safe, friendly and efficient transportation for passengers.
Meijer Extends ‘Simply Give’ Program to Benefit Elk Grove Township Food Pantry
Meijer in Rolling Meadows, 1301 Meijer Drive, has extended its ‘Simply Give’ program, which was set to end October 24, 2020. The giving campaign enables store customers to purchase gift cards that help the Elk Grove Township Food Pantry stock its shelves with needed items. Since nearly 50% more families are utilizing the Township Food Pantry this year compared to last, the 10-week extension until January 2, 2021 will help sustain the food pantry through the holiday season.
Save the Date for Elk Grove Township Holiday Outreach Programs
Elk Grove Township provides a wide range of services and programs throughout the year, in keeping with their motto, ‘Empowering People through Community’. This fall and winter, three major outreach programs will kick off, so ‘save the date’ and consider donating to the Thanksgiving Basket, Operation Christmas, and/or White Christmas programs. Elk Grove Township Hosts Cereal Bowl IV Friday, October 4, 2019
District 214 rivals, Rolling Meadows and Elk Grove high schools will square off during an upcoming football game with some extra competition on the night of Friday, October 4, 2019. Throughout the week leading up to the game, the schools will be competing against one another to win Elk Grove Township’s annual Cereal Bowl competition. Students will be educating their peers about hunger in the community and collecting donated boxes of cereal for game night.
Elk Grove Township Partners with Meijer in a Hunger Relief Effort
Elk Grove Township is partnering with the Rolling Meadows Meijer store, located at 1301 Meijer Drive, for the retailer’s ‘Simply Give’ program. The fall campaign began on Sunday, August 23 and hunger relief efforts have generously been extended to October 24, 2020. Area residents can shop at Meijer and purchase a ‘Simply Give’ donation card at the checkout counter to help stock the shelves of the Township food pantry.
Elk Grove Township Food Pantry Undergoing Changes in Early August
Due to the ongoing pandemic, Elk Grove Township has experienced an increase in individuals who need to utilize the food pantry. Beginning August 4, 2020, these growing needs will be met through a new ‘client choice’ model, which allows individuals to choose items in the food pantry that they prefer, over those that are prepackaged.
Elk Grove Township Offering New Program for Seniors
Since the COVID-19 health crisis began, seniors have been placed in a high-risk category. Elk Grove Township’s new program, Senior Community Check-In, aims to connect seniors with a social worker to assess their social, emotional, physical and safety needs while still living at home, also known as aging in place. Seniors are then connected to Township programs based on their unique needs.
Elk Grove Township Announces New Food Pantry Truck
Elk Grove Township is proud to announce the addition of a food pantry truck, which will be available to serve in-need residents beginning in mid-May. This new truck will provide a more convenient way for residents to utilize the Township food pantry through deliveries, and for individuals, organizations and businesses to make donations. Boxed food supplied by the Greater Chicago Food Depository will also be dropped off by the truck to in-need seniors and disabled individuals who sign up to receive deliveries.
Elk Grove Township Offers Wide Range of Services

In addition to those provided for those experiencing financial challenges, the Township is now offering adult and family counseling. These services assist residents dealing with mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, family conflicts and stress-related illnesses, among others.

Everyone’s a Winner at Elk Grove Township Cereal Bowl Competition
Elk Grove Township is thankful and humbled by the strong engagement of students, staff and families from Elk Grove and Rolling Meadows high schools who contributed to the success of Cereal Bowl IV. The 4th annual competition culminated at the two schools’ football game on Friday, October 4, 2019 and pitted them against one another to garner the most donations of cereal boxes to benefit the Township Food Pantry.
Elk Grove Township Adds Services, Expands Focus to Empower Residents
Elk Grove Township continues to develop new ways and approaches to achieve its mission of empowering people through community. As a result, new services to assist Township residents are now being offered, and the name of departments providing these vital services have been renamed to better reflect core functions and what they each provide.
Elk Grove Township Provides Social Services and So Much More
In addition to the wide variety of programs and services for in-need Elk Grove Township residents – such as holiday giving programs, the food pantry, and the mobile dental clinic – there are also services available to Township residents of which they may not be aware. These include (but are not limited to) passport processing services, prescription drug cards that provide discounts for the entire family, the sale of hunting and fishing licenses, and the community resource board, where resources, education, and information about events and other local activities are posted for Township residents.
Elk Grove Township Partners with Meijer for Simply Give Program
Elk Grove Township is partnering with the Rolling Meadows Meijer store, located at 1301 Meijer Drive, for the grocer’s yearly ‘Simply Give’ program. Now through December 29, 2018, area residents can shop at Meijer and donate funds at the checkout counter to help stock the shelves of the Township food pantry, which serves nearly 200 in-need families each month.
Tips to Help Children Gain Control Over Anxious Situations
One of the trends that the Youth Services staff has been seeing over the past few years is the increasing number of children who experience high levels of anxiety. Parents need to know that there is no reason to panic. If your child seems to show anxiety—adding your own may unwittingly fuel that of your child.
