Elk Grove Township Seeks Residents to Serve on Newly Approved 708 Mental Health Board

Following voter approval of the referendum, Township begins seeking qualified residents to help strengthen local mental health services

Following the passage of the resident-initiated 708 Mental Health Board referendum on Tuesday, November 3, pending official certification of the election results, Elk Grove Township is taking the next steps toward establishing its Mental Health Board by inviting qualified residents to apply for board membership. The referendum marks an important milestone in expanding access to mental health resources for Township residents.

The referendum was placed on the November ballot following a successful resident-led petition effort which gathered 895 signatures, exceeding the required minimum of 596. The strong community involvement demonstrated a shared commitment to addressing mental health needs and strengthening available resources for residents.

The newly established 708 Mental Health Board will be responsible for supporting the funding of services related to mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder treatment for residents of Elk Grove Township. Through this initiative, the Township aims to strengthen access to essential services and help address the growing need for mental health and wellness resources throughout the community.

“As we move forward with establishing the Mental Health Board, our priority is to ensure the process is transparent, inclusive, and fully compliant with all applicable Illinois statutes,” said Township Supervisor John Scaletta. “We want to ensure that the individuals serving on this board bring valuable perspectives, relevant experience, and a genuine commitment to meeting the needs of our residents.”

Elk Grove Township is now seeking residents interested in serving on the Mental Health Board. Individuals are encouraged to submit a letter of interest along with a summary of their professional experience and/or lived experience relevant to mental health services and community needs. The Township welcomes applicants who are passionate about making a meaningful difference and contributing to the future of mental health services in the community.

“Having dedicated individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences will be essential as we work to establish this board,” Scaletta added. “We encourage residents who are passionate about improving access to mental health services to consider applying and taking an active role in helping shape the future of these important resources.”

All submissions must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2026.
