Road Maintenance
Roads are among our most important public assets and provide an invaluable contribution to the economic vitality of our township. Properly maintained roads decrease vehicle operation costs, bring down travel times, and reduce accident rates. That is why a well-planned program of regular road repair and maintenance continues to be one of our most important priorities.
Driveway Permits
The permit process is in place to protect you and your investment, as well as your neighbors and the Township from improper work done by contractors. Permits ensure that all construction is completed correctly and meets established standards for safety.
All Driveway Permits Must Include:
- Plat of land survey
- Engineered Plan Detailing All Work To Be Performed
- Contractor Information
- Contractor Proof of Insurance
- $10,000.00 SURETY BOND Naming Elk Grove Township as Beneficiary.
- $25.00 Non-Refundable administrative fee
- The Township Road Department must be notified at least three (3) working days (excluding weekends and holidays) before any commencement of work.
- “J.U.L.I.E” (Utility Locator) must be contacted 48 hours before starting work. Call 811 or 800-892-0123 to place a LOCATE REQUEST.
Also because of local municipal boundaries, any additional work may require permits from:
- Cook County
- Elk Grove Village
- Mount Prospect
- Illinois Department of Transportation
Branch Pick Up
Branch pick-up is offered from April through October weather permitting, on the fifteenth of each month. If the fifteenth falls on a holiday or weekend, branch pick-up will be scheduled for the first work day which follows.
Branches are picked up in residential areas on the streets maintained by the Township ONLY (unincorporated areas).
We ask you to limit your piles to storm and wind damaged branches and not to exceed two cubic yards. If a landscaping or tree service takes down a tree on your property, they are responsible for its disposal. Please also remember your waste disposal company (Groot, Waste Management, etc.) will pick up branches that are bundled and tied.
What will be picked up:
Branches with a minimum of 2 feet in length and a maximum of 12 feet in length and less than 6 inches in diameter.
What will NOT be picked up:
- Small hedge or pine clippings
- Yard waste or brush in containers
- Brush or branches with thorns
- Stumps or tree roots
How to stack the brush:
- Neatly stack the branches in one direction with the butt end toward the street.
- No lumber, wire, rope, or other material may be included with branches.
- Remember, once we have gone through an area, we will not return until the next scheduled date.
Snow Removal
Snow plowing and the elimination of ice on the streets in unincorporated Elk Grove Township are top priorities during the winter season. Dedicated plowing routes have been established to ensure major thoroughfares, residential, and industrial areas receive proper attention during snow fall. In the winter of 2022 Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) with Elk Grove Village and Mount Prospect were created whereby unincorporated roads in Elk Grove Township began to be plowed and salted by the respective village.
Any questions or concerns regarding winter road conditions in Elk Grove Village should be directed to the Public Works Department at 847-734-8800.
Any questions or concerns for Mount Prospect Village streets should be directed to the Streets and Buildings Division of the Mount Prospect Public Works Department at 847-870-5640.
