Bicycle Safety
The Bicycle Safety Program at Elk Grove Township is a dynamic initiative designed to empower youth with the knowledge and skills to safely navigate their communities on two wheels. Through interactive presentations, hands-on demonstrations, and engaging activities, the program covers essential topics such as helmet fitting, hand signals, bike maintenance, and understanding traffic rules. Tailored for grades K-5, the program emphasizes the importance of safety, responsibility, and the environmental benefits of biking.
Our mission and vision are to inspire lifelong habits of safe biking among youth in Elk Grove Township, cultivating a community where cycling is a cherished, inclusive, and sustainable activity. By providing accessible, educational experiences that blend safety awareness with practical skill-building, we aim to foster confidence, independence, and environmental stewardship in young riders. Together, we envision a future where Elk Grove Township youth embrace biking as a tool for recreation, transportation, and connection, all while prioritizing personal safety and community accountability.
The program offers Bicycle Safety Classes that can be presented in-school or on location at the township, providing flexible options to accommodate the needs of schools, families, and community groups. We also host open rides, which create opportunities for participants to practice their skills, enjoy biking in a supportive setting, and connect with other riders. These events encourage a sense of community and reinforce the importance of safe and responsible biking practices.
