The first intern to participate in the new program is a graduating senior who plans to attend law school in the fall.

Elk Grove Township has officially launched its new internship program, in partnership with Northern Illinois University.

The program provides an opportunity for interns to participate in a variety of activities at the Township, allowing them to see firsthand how Township government works.

Interns will assist in ongoing projects and programs relating to Administration, Finance, General Assistance and Transportation. They also will be expected to attend Township meetings, as well as meetings with local government bodies and area businesses.

Additionally, Township Administrator Paul Pioch will work with them individually to develop programs aimed at benefiting Township residents.

The first intern to be accepted into the new program will be Kiran Gill, a 2016 Northern Illinois University graduate who has a degree in Political Science.

Gill plans to attend law school in the fall, and said she is grateful for the opportunity to gain real-world experience through her internship with Elk Grove Township.

“This is a great opportunity to give me exposure to the daily functions of local government,” Gill said. “Working in the various offices will provide me with transferrable skills that I can utilize in my future professional experiences.”
