Applicants Now Accepted for Elk Grove Township Summer Internships

College juniors and seniors can apply for one of two internships offered through the Township: General Assistance and Administration.

Two paid summer internships are being offered by Elk Grove Township this summer, and college students entering their junior and senior year are invited to apply. One internship is with the General Assistance Department and the second is with Township Administration.

The internship program was established in 2016, with a goal to provide interns with direct experiences working in local government. Applicants must be entering their junior or senior years in college, and have basic computer skills, including utilizing email, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

Applicants for the General Assistance Internship should be majoring in social work, human services or a related field, be able to work independently, and contribute to the team environment in the General Assistance Department. Critical thinking, problem-solving, strong organizational skills and compassion for others are other preferred attributes for those interested in applying. Applicants must also be able to lift approximately 25 pounds.

The internship with Township Administration requires the willingness to work in and with all Township departments, to be involved in daily Township business, and to attend Township and other meetings with local government bodies and community partners. This internship will provide experiences working in program oversight, planning and execution, as well as with transportation and finance.

“Our internship program has been extremely successful over the last few years; we have been able to hire promising young men and women who have since gone on to flourish in their professional careers,” said Elk Grove Township Supervisor Mike Sweeney. “These types of experiences are important for young people contemplating their direction in life, and the Township is honored to be able to provide them.”

Resumes, along with a cover letter are due by Friday, May 10, 2019, and should state which internship is being sought, and why the individual is interested in the position. These materials can be emailed to ppioch@elkgrovetownship.com or mailed to: Elk Grove Township, Attn. Paul Pioch, 2400 S. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois 60005.
